How you say “enough” in French: Citroen releases sixth GT teaser

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 by admin

In a move more “Um, yeah…” than “Oh yeah!”, Citroen has released the sixth teaser image of the car that will, one of these days, be revealed entirely to the world, all at once, front and back. We aren’t even sure if this qualifies as a tease, since getting a glimpse at a front end we’ve already seen doesn’t really ring the bell. What we can say is that one of our commenters appears to be right: the car does look like it’s only 10 inches high.

Hanging back: GT by Citroen rear comes up for air

Sunday, September 28th, 2008 by admin

It’s time for your next dose of the GT by Citroen concept. To the commenter who wrote that the front of the car looks like a catfish — well, in a victory for symmetry, the back of the car looks like a catfish, too, and a couple of other gilled sea creatures. No matter its fishy similarities, it also look like it will be a lot of fun to throw this baby around Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The tease can’t go on much longer — the Paris Motor Show begins in a week. We’ll be there with cameras and bait, just in case.

Citroen does the Charleston in Paris with special C3 Pluriel

Saturday, September 13th, 2008 by admin

Last month we noted that Citroen was gearing up to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its most iconic model, the 2CV. For those not familiar with the 2CV, it is to France what the Beetle was to Germany or the Cinquecento was to Italy. Although some suggested that Citroen could be preparing to resurrect the model with a retro throwback of its own, it now appears the French automaker has had its hands full preparing the Hypnos concept, the C6 Office and the new C3 Picasso. So to mark the 2CV’s birthday, Citroen is launching a special edition of its quirky little convertible called the C3 Pluriel Charleston.

The special edition takes the same name and paint scheme as the original 2CV 6 Charleston, but that only begs the question as to why a French automaker has named a French car for the French market after a city in South Carolina that the French can’t even pronounce. The Pluriel, now on the market since 2003, features an awkward multi-function roof that can be deployed in different configurations… a setup we hope Fiat manages to improve on with the upcoming 500 Cabrio Coach. The Charleston edition, meanwhile, upgrades with a leather interior, chrome trim, 15-inch alloys (don’t get too excited now) and a special interior.

There are many European cars we wish we could get in the United States. We’ll let the French keep this one.

Paris Preview: Citroen Hypnos Hybrid CUV concept

Thursday, September 4th, 2008 by admin

Citroen looks content to carry on in its quirky ways with its latest concept, the Hypnos hybrid utility vehicle. Residing squarely in the same vein as new coupe-like crossovers like the BMW X6 and Infiniti FX models, the French machine goes that extra step towards the crazy house. From the renderings in our gallery below, the front doors appear so long and exagerated that the rear portals bottom-half is taken up entirely by the wheel wells. Things get even stranger from there with jewel-like seats and a DNA-style double-helix center section adorning the interior.

Under the hood will be a hybrid powertrain with an engine producing 200-horsepower plus an undetermined amount of force from the electric half of the drivetrain. This 50-mpg powertrain is one part of the concept that we hope is based in reality. Fortunately, we’re pretty sure that these renderings are just conceptual while the real vehicle will debut in concept form at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in October.
