Want multiplayer in Prototype 2? Buy Prototype 1

When the open world smash-em-up Prototype was first revealed, online multiplayer was one of the most exciting features on the docket. Unfortunately, it was discovered last month that the feature (both online and off) has been removed from the game so the team at Radical Entertainment can focus on the single-player experience. For those who lamented the loss of multiplayer, we have some almost good news. No, it’s still not going to be included in Prototype, but Radical Entertainment’s Chris Ansell recently told Eurogamer that it could show up in Prototype 2. The catch, of course, is that there has to be a Prototype 2. So, if you really want to see how good Prototype multiplayer can be, you’d best hope it sells enough copies to merit a sequel

Earlier today Monolith dropped five bloody screens of their latest shooter F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin. Each of the five screens includes the proper amount of killing and pools of blood that you would expect from a Monolith title. Also included are a peek at brand new environments and the Giant Mechanized Walker from the player perspective. Not pictured is Alma (above) who really should go see an optometrist about that red-eye problem.

Meet FaceBreaker’s Romeo, get punched

Monday, May 5th, 2008 by admin

GameVideos (which has received a huge makeover, by the way) has posted a new trailer for FaceBreaker, the upcoming cartoon boxer from EA. The video serves as an introduction to Romeo, a svelte Spanish boxer with a voice that lands somewhere between Antonio Banderas and Family Guy's Mr. Weed. Perhaps more importantly, the video gives us a peek at how FaceBreaker will actually play. Assuming what's seen in the video is actually taken from gameplay, you can expect to occasionally launch foes completely off the mat. In the video, Romeo repeatedly launches foes high in the air and lands another crushing blow as they plummet back to the canvas. We have to admit, it looks like it could be a lot of fun. Given the pedigree of EA Canada (Fight Night Round 3), we're hopeful that it will be.

New Aliens: Colonial Marines Concept Art

Not a whole hell of a lot is known about the tactical squad based shooter, being brought to us courtesy of Gearbox and Sega. The licensed FPS, Aliens: Colonial Marines, was revealed in older issue of Game Informer, and then rather dropped off the radar until reappearing in UK’s OXM. Colonial Marines is scheduled to hit this fall and sport four-player drop-in-drop-out online coop, and the new two pieces of concept art depict the heads of the one the aliens and one of the marines. They’ll probably be used as some sort of promotional material for the game, so we’re likely to see these images again.

Project Origin video blowout

Sunday, May 4th, 2008 by admin

Monolith has dropped not one, not two, not three, but four new Project Origin trailers for gamers everywhere to ogle. The first, embedded above, deals with the Replica Elite Powered Armor. It is, quite simply, a mech capable of laying waste to all in its path. The video make sure to drive this point home, destroying buildings and vaporizing soldiers that stand in its way (or even in the general vicinity of its way). The second video (embedded after the break along with the other two) concerns the return of one of the enemies in the original F.E.A.R., the Assassin. The Assassin is an acrobatic, pseudo-invisible badass with a penchant for killing. Sound fun? Of course it does. The final two videos are fly-throughs that show off Project Origin’s spooky environments. Be the first kid on your block to watch them all.

While the rest of us wait for the May 16 demo of Sierra’s Bourne Conspiracy action title to hit Xbox Live, UK gamers can snag the demo today at their local GAME store. While picking up his copy of Grand Theft Auto IV one of our loyal X3F soldiers was given the demo for the anticipated game based on the best-selling novels by Robert Ludlum. We’ve been vocal on our interest in the game so color us green with envy from the early demo, at least until it finally lands on the Marketplace later this month.

Ninja Gaiden 2: Drugs, Phoenix Fire & Armlets

We’ve known for some time that Ninja Gaiden 2 will be releasing on June the 3rd, but some of the game’s finer details have been a bit under wraps. In an article in Famitsu (kindly translated by folks over at the Ninja Fortress boards and reposted at NeoGAF) there is some more details on the game’s changes and tweaks. There’s tons of little tidbits, but some of the biggest ones are more revealing, like the fact that some gamers have beaten the game’s beta version in 15 hours (difficulty wasn’t mentioned.)

Other things of note include the fact that there are no longer armlets in the game, as Ryu more or less has those abilities inherently now, and the fact hat Ryu no longer carries around potions to heal. Healing items are now different sorts of powders (”‘This time, Ryu uses drugs to heal’ he said while laughing.”). And if you missed the xbox.com update, the Flame Wheels are now flaming birds that will circle you, attacking enemies who come too close. If you’re interested in reading a little more, just follow the read link.

PS3 FanboyGames Daily | AOL Games Motorstorm 2 officially adopts Pacific Rift as subtitle

It had been rumored around the internet for a while now, so it’s not exactly shocking news to hear its confirmation. Motorstorm 2 has officially been re-named Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. We’re almost certain we’d heard this before, but since it hadn’t been confirmed (the official unveiling is due in June’s edition of PlayStation: The Official Magazine) we thought it’d be nice to assure you that you can, in fact, call the game by this title when amongst groups of friends. So get ready to race around some sexy islands and get into some sexy crashes later this year with Motorstorm: Pacific Rift.

The latest episode of Insomniac’s “Full Moon Show” podcast, as well as subsequent posts on NeoGAF, indicate that a playable build of Resistance 2 will be available for press at PlayStation Day. Unfortunately, no video of the game will be made available after the event, leaving you to snack on only a collection of screenshots and hands-on impressions before June 13th. We’ll be at the event and will endeavor to bring you those all-important screenies and our own hands on impressions of the game as soon as possible.

PlayStation Day occurs on Tuesday, May 6th so be sure to check back here for full coverage of the event.

weekly-recap

Last week we used this commemorative image to introduce our review archive. This week, we’re using it again, because we seriously got our review on. In fact, we aren’t exactly sure how we found time to report on all the news this week, with all the time we spent thinking really hard about games.
