Pics and Video Aplenty: 2009 BMW 7 Series

Thursday, September 25th, 2008 by admin

BMW released a bevy of new 2009 7 Series images and even some video today in anticipation of the big sedan’s appearance next month at the Paris Motor Show. Officially unveiled at the Moscow Motor Show in early July, the 2009 7 Series will appear at the Paris show in at least six different models: the 730d powered by a 3.0L straight-six diesel engine, the 740i and long-wheelbase 740il, the 750i and the also long-wheelbase 750il, as well as a hybrid version. The 7 Series will also be packed with more high technology than NORAD, including a Side View camera system, Park Distance Control system, Lane Departure Warning system, Head-up display, a four-wheel steering system called Integral Active Steering, and, of course, the latest generation of BMW’s iDrive.

Camaro SS and Corvette ZR1 sparring on track

Thursday, September 18th, 2008 by admin

Video clips of the Corvette ZR1 strutting its stuff on track can be found virtually anywhere on the internet. But that doesn’t mean we’re tired of seeing the beast in action, particularly if the video happens to feature another new staple of GM’s sporty lineup. The latest internet discovery is a grainy, sometimes barely audible, clip of the Chevrolet Camaro SS tackling the twisties with a guest appearance by a jet black ZR1. The video begins with the new muscle making a go on the course all alone. Then later, it appears trailing behind the infamous supercharged ‘Vette.

From what we can see, the Camaro’s chassis seems to be nicely tuned. The body roll is not substantial and the pony car takes a seat quickly when entering a turn with no floaty oscillations. Hopefully the short but sweet video tease is a direct indication of the production setup. Follow the jump to view things for yourself. Thanks for the tip, Xeyad!

Brooke Shields pretending VW Routan is NOT a Dodge Caravan

Saturday, September 13th, 2008 by admin

In what could very possibly be the worst auto-related commercial we have ever seen, Volkswagen has somehow convinced Brooke Shields (really Brooke, are things this bad?) to shill its new, at least to VW showrooms, Caravan Routan minivan. Apparently, what the people want is a badge-engineered Volkswagen version of the Pentastar minivan platform. In the extended commercial, Shields attempts to explain with a straight face that Americans are getting pregnant just so they can buy a Routan and enjoy its German engineering. Except that it’s not German engineered, unless you count the fact that Daimler was still married to Chrysler when the van was developed. We certainly don’t. Sure, the Routan’s Chrysler-sourced suspension was probably tweaked by Volkswagen, and it’s got softer styling up front to differentiate it from its Auburn Hills-based brothers, but those credentials are far from enough to call it “German engineered”.

First Hyundai Genesis Coupe commercial hits Korea, pricing revealed

Saturday, September 6th, 2008 by admin

Today is the day reservations become available for the Hyundai Genesis Coupe in Korea. To celebrate, Hyundai has released a new commercial which you can watch after the break. Those placing orders now should begin taking possession of their new two-door, rear-wheel drive coupe on September 26. Pricing for the new hotness from Hyundai is very reasonable for the Korean market with a base price of 25,360,000 WON (about U.S. $23,000). Stepping up to the “Stylish Pack” (seriously?) nets you 19-inch rims, a limited slip diff and optional Brembo’s for 26,920,000 WON (U.S. $24,500). Well worth it in our estimation. A loaded 3.8-liter V6 Genesis Coupe will go for 33,150,000 WON (U.S. $30,100), which buys you over 300-horsepower and a full leather interior.

Hit the jump for a full rundown of pricing and options for the Coupe in Korea. According to our tipster, the Genesis sedan with the 3.8-liter V6 is selling for about $70K in its home market. This being the case, it’s pretty hard to draw any conclusions as to what this means for U.S. Genesis Coupe pricing when it goes on sale sometime in 2009. We can hardly wait.

Ferrari California is easy to drive… you know, for the ladies

Thursday, September 4th, 2008 by admin

So far the only video footage we’ve seen of the new Ferrari California has been either computer animated or sitting still with a giant chin talking. But the fellas over at Autocar magazine in the UK made their way down to Maranello with video cameras in tow for an up-close-and-personal with the newest Prancing Stallion. After the jump you’ll find some focus-changing fun angles of the new California, as well as a brief interview with product development director Roberto Corradi, who amusingly informs us that the car was made easier to drive and more softly styled to accommodate female customers. Seriously. Check it out after the jump… it’s good for a laugh.

VIDEO: Confirmed! Veritas testing at the Nurburgring

Watson, the mystery’s been solved. After Chris spied a sinuous silver shape on his iPhone and a couple of readers sent us shots from the Nurburgring web cam, we now have video of the Veritas RS3 sitting at the starting gate, ready to do… something on the infamous Nordschleife. The blokes from the Bridge to Gantry have put the matter to rest with a video walk-around of the Veritas taken by one of the dozens of people surrounding the concept before it made its way onto the Green Hell.

Just as a refresher, the Veritas RS3 was a showcar displayed in 2001 packing a BMW-sourced V12 putting out 670 hp and 560 lb.-ft. of torque. With a tubular chassis and a total weight of just over a ton, we can only imagine the fun the race-ready driver was having after speeding off from the entry gate at the ‘Ring.

VIDEO: Nick Heidfeld breaks BMW Sauber F1 car while showing off

Not that BMW’s Sauber F1 car has anything more than three letters in common with cars that bear the propeller logo on public streets, but who’s going to argue with the opportunity to lay down the tools early? Hotshoe Nick Heidfeld recently treated a crowd of laborer’s at BMW’s Munich factory to the spectacle of a big-dollar race car being treated like a hand-me-down Reliant, complete with a body-damaging finale. The shriek of a high-strung F1 racer while it slides around doing lurid donuts is a thing to behold, but the smile quickly fades when the front splitter gets tangled up in the curbing and ripped off the nose. Whoops. Video after the jump - Thanks for the tip, Ovidiu!

Ninja Gaiden 2: Super Bad-Guy Reveal

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 by admin

With the leaking of the Elizébet character earlier today, the list of leaked achievements mentioning her name got a bit more credible, but what about the rest of the names on the list? The last name on the list, Genshin, is in fact the game’s ultra-ninja counterpart for Ryu, and is the leader of the Black Spider clan, who have allied themselves with the fiends in an attempt to end the Hayabusa bloodline. Elizébet is the queen of the greate - … y’know this “story” stuff really doesn’t matter, just watch the videos (the second one is after the break and is a bit NSFW).
