Ford Introduces MyKey Parenting Tool for Teen Drivers

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 by admin

Ford MyKey

Ford owners will have a new way to cut back on the shenanigans of their teen drivers thanks to a new technology called MyKey. Debuting on the 2010 Focus coupe and then quickly being expanded to other members of Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury lineup, the new system allows parents to program a key that will curtail what Ford considers to be dangerous behavior by new drivers.

To program the key, parents use the vehicle’s message center to set a variety of options including the seatbelt chime. While the traditional seatbelt chime beeps every six seconds for the first five minutes, with MyKey the car will eventually mute the radio unless the driver buckles their seatbelt. The system can also limit the vehicle’s top speed to 80 mph, prevent traction control from being deactivated, limit the radio’s maximum volume, and sound a chime to alert the driver when they reach 45, 55, and 65 mph.

According to Ford a majority of parents like these new features and parents who purchase a vehicle with MyKey would be more inclined to let their children drive.

Hang in there, subnote lovers — a tracking number is bound to come soon (er, we hope).

Has Rick Schwartz thrown in the towel?

Schwartz posted his would be final post on March 20 as a response to the minimal financial support the Internet Commerce Association has been receiving.

The little support apparently has convinced Schwartz that he is wasting his time.

iriver E100 is now for sale, still kind of chubby

iriver-e100-for-sale.jpg

We weren’t terribly impressed by the iriver E100’s size or functionality, but at $110 for a 4GB player with this size of screen, it’s certainly hard to complain. For $50 more you can get an 8GB player, and both sizes come in pink, black, blue and brown and white flavors. You can pick it up now at Amazon.com or J&R, and we’re sure other online retailers will be quick to jump on board.

UAE nabbed a pair of ships suspected for undersea cable cutting

Monday, April 14th, 2008 by admin

Turns out the United Arab Emirates took two ships into custody on February 19th after those infamous cable cuttings. Wayward anchors are suspected to be at fault, and the Korean company responsible for one of the vessels just agreed to fork over 60 grand in damages in exchange for the release of its ship. The other ship, which is owned by an Iraqi company, is still under Dubai custody, and the two sailors on board were arrested and are awaiting prosecution next week. As for us, we’re standing by our space aliens in league with garden gnomes theory. It all just adds up.

Systematic.com goes for USD400K

Monday, April 14th, 2008 by admin

Written by Caycee Boyce , Saturday, 29 March 2008

Via Texada’s press release (PDF) :

TEXADA Software Inc. (TSX Venture: TXS), premier provider of equipment rental and mobile asset management software, today announced that it has sold the ownership of one of its Internet addresses for $400,000.

“One of the legacy issues that made little sense to me upon recently becoming CEO was to have our company incur the confusion and expense of operating two separately named websites,” said Nigel Miller, President and CEO of TEXADA Software Inc. “I therefore decided to consolidate all our Internet information under our most appropriate name:

www.TEXADAsoftware.com . We were fortunate to identify a non-competing company in Europe who were interested in acquiring the name of our discontinued website, www.systematic.com.”

“Effective immediately, everyone will be able to view all our company and product information on one site: www.TEXADAsoftware.com. Appropriate steps have been taken to notify all our contacts. For a period of a year, the www.systematic.com website will also display an ad that enables anyone looking for our company to click through to the TEXADA website”, concluded Mr. Miller.”

The new buyer seems to be a company with vested interest in the domain (they are currently using http://systematic.dk ). Current WHOIS:

    “Systematic Software Engineering A/S
    Soeren Frichs Vej 39
    Aarhus, DK-8000
    DK”

Nothing out of the ordinary here, happens many times a year for many years, mostly these things go unreported.
