Audio Ping Pong lets your ears, noggin do all the work

Just when you think Pong can’t be played any other way, yet another creative soul emerges to prove the notion wrong. Mike McCracken has managed to remove all visual aspects of the game yet still maintain the core goal by enabling one’s head to make the motions typically assigned to the hands. Essentially, a sound is emitted from the headphones on one side or the other, and the gamer has to tilt his / her head just so until the noise is centered. This back-and-forth sequence speeds up to intensify the challenge, and if you can’t manage to keep the ringing front and center, an unpalatable buzzer sounds and a light turns on to alert you of your defeat. Really, it’s way more clear how all this works in the video below, so have at it.

Takuma Sato Gets New Seat

Thursday, April 17th, 2008 by admin

Console, Game, Play Seat, PlaySeat, Takuma Sato, TakumaSato

At first glance this could be Super Aguri’s latest F1 contender. It’s not like they need any bodywork for all their sponsors’ stickers…

But no, it is a limited edition Takuma Sato Play Seat that can be parked in front of your TV for just 60,900 cents/Yen (around $600 USD). There goes that precious living room square footage freed up by last year’s purchase of an ultra thin widescreen plasma display. Play Seats are comaptible with PS2s, 3s, Wiis and X-Boxes, and we’re just aching to give one, or preferably two, a test drive. Fortunatley, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue came out yesterday and a few of us have it in hand, though we’re not sure how we’re going to convince AOL that a Play Seat is a required business expense for reviewing the game.

Walnut Candle Boats Halloween Game

Monday, March 24th, 2008 by admin

Walnut, Candle, Boats ,Halloween, Game

Carve out the meat from the walnuts and fasten short pieces of colored birthday candles to each halves. Name each walnut candle boat after a person in the party, light them up and set them afloat in a tub of water. If the two boats glide together, then those two people are said to have similar destiny. If they glide apart, it means separation for the owners of the boats. Sometimes candles seem to huddle together as a close-knit family while one or two will be left alone to represent loneliness and solitude. The candle that goes out first is said to indicate that its owner would remain a spinster or a bachelor.

This fortune game is not only interesting and keeps the youths interested at least as long as the candles last but also add to the Halloween aura. The party venue with creepy decorations looks even scarier in flickering candlelights as walnut candle boats float around water. If a pair of candles seems to float together from the start, it is predicted that the pair will be very close to each other throughout their lives and will probably marry each other. Toppling of the walnut candle boats is considered an ill omen and thus, care should be taken not to let the boats drown.

Fortune telling using a deck of playing cards or tarot cards is increasingly becoming a favored time-pass among youths. Halloween party with the host and hostess dressed as a wizard and a witch and telling fortunes of their guests wing tarot cards or playing cards is sure to be a hit. You can also dress up like a gypsy and have a crystal ball on the table for added effect. Keep the lights dim and focus the desk lamp on the cards. If you are doing this for the first time, you will need a Tarot Card book or a fortuneteller book for playing cards to assist you in interpreting the cards. There are two ways to make predictions using the cards.

Ask the person to shuffle the cards well, while thinking up and concentrating on a question. After they have shuffled enough, take the cards from his or hands and fan them out, so that the person can choose a card from them. Open the book and see what the card they have drawn means. Another simple way is the three-card spread. Here, the person has to think of a question and focus on it while they shuffle the cards and cut the deck twice to make three piles. Then, ask them to choose one of the piles, and keep it on the top of other piles. Deal 3 cards from the topmost pile. The first card to the left reflects the past of the person; the card in the middle reflects the present while the card on the right reflects the future. Interpret the cards and reveal the past, present and future of the person.

Apple Peel Halloween Game

Monday, March 24th, 2008 by admin

Apple Peel is an old practice among young girls and women on Halloween to know the initials of their lover or future spouse. It also keeps them interested in their work while preparing Halloween feast as they play along and look for their fortunes and share their secret desires or chuckles. It is an easy game and an interesting one to play and get your guests to share some of your work. Give each of the guests an apple and a paring knife. The guests have to work diligently and peel the apple from top to bottom in a continuous circle.

The guests have to make sure that peel does not break in between for the charm to work. Once they have an entire apple peel, which now looks like a spiral, they can start tossing it for predictions. All the guests have to do is to throw the peel over their shoulder while stating that ‘Peel, peel, please reveal, the initial letter, of my true love.’ Do not look back, until it falls on the floor. It is said that if done in the right manner, the peel will fall in the shape of an alphabet, which is supposed to be the initial letter of the true lover of the individual. This game is more popular among teenagers and boys and girls of marriageable age.

Acer not developing game console after all

Acer, not, developing, game ,console, after, all

Comments made earlier this week from Acer senior VP James Wong had the intarwebz ablaze with hunches that the firm could be entering the console market in one way or another. Now, however, a UK spokesperson has clarified that there “was a major misunderstanding,” and outrightly asserted that the outfit was “not going to release any game console.” Instead, the idea is to “develop a high-end PC targeted at the serious gamer.” So yeah, you can take that Xbox 360 off of eBay — looks like you’ll be needing it for awhile longer.

Polaroid to shake Instant Digital photo frame into reality [Update: sorry, game off!]

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008 by admin

Polaroid, to ,shake, Instan,t, Digital, photo, frame, into, reality, [Update: sorry, game, off!]

For every terrible mockup we see, there’s a few that stand out — and it looks like that Digital Polaroid frame concept we spotted a couple weeks ago caught some eyes over at Polaroid as well, because the company has apparently contacted designer Dave Friedman and is working on making it a real product. That’s a pretty fitting tribute to a classic gone by — but we won’t be appeased unless you can shake this thing to make new photos appear.

Update: Looks like Stuff misconstrued a simple statement made by a Polaroid employee (that he saw and “liked” the concept), and ran the whole thing as fact. Shocking. David Friedman, the concept’s originator, got in touch and let us know that “I wish [it] were the case, but unfortunately the first I heard of this was earlier today in a post on Stuff Magazine’s website. … So I think this still goes in the “rumor” category for now.”

Survivor Interactive PC Game

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 by admin

Survivor, Interactive, PC, Game

So you are a big fan of the Survivor TV series and never missed an episode from its first installment in Borneo last year 2000 and to its latest (and fifteenth) in China. You imagined yourself as one of the castaways who will battle the 39 days and nights to become the sole survivor. You want to win the reward challenges and the immunity challenges. You want to become a member of a tribe that enjoys a winning streak and you dream of becoming the master strategist, the manipulator especially when the two opposing tribes finally unite wherein the members then start working independently.

You don’t want to see your name written in the parchment paper not until the final tribal council. You don’t want to see your torch blown off and you want to be the last person standing. If we kind of connected with all the things that I’m saying, then you are a certified Survivor fanatic. And we share the same thing; we want to make it in Survivor. Being stranded in an island maybe tough but is nonetheless a worthy experience. But face the truth; casting is limited every time a season comes up so you need to let those hopes falter for a bit.

Then you discover the Survivor Interactive PC Game and you realize that your dream can finally reach fulfillment, well at least even in the virtual sense. You excitedly installed the game and started realizing the hardships and boredom you might face in case you really become a contestant of Survivor. Don’t tell me you haven’t been warned.

So we know that the key point to survive in the game is through making alliances, and so is this game. As the game begins, you select a task to do. Gathering water, food, firewood makes you useful and keeps you valuable. While doing these tasks, you must chat with as many tribe mates as possible– making your alliances. The chatting, however, is so dreadful. The speaking options are the same and not much variation, boring.

The immunity and reward challenges are disappointing mainly due to length and sloppy controls. Many challenges feel like you are fighting for control more than completing an event. A canoe archery game in which you shoot targets as you float down a river, suffers from odd mouse tracking, and a limited range of movement. While rather painless, the pushing challenges can often take 10 minutes or more, killing any feigning interest.

The game is definitely not worthy of the name. Better watch the series and forget that there is a game devoted to it.
