HTC Touch Pro hands-on

features, hands-on, htc, touch pro, TouchPro

After spending a few moments investing in it, there is no problem to us this the Touch Pro is HTC’s the majority of massive handset to date (even if you count the Xperia X1). Okay, the phone is a good deal a bit thick (roughly the same as a Tilt), and there is no 3.5mm headphone jack, but it is got a actually miniscule footprint and a outstandingly comfortably proportioned keyboard. We can additionally actually unquestionably increase in value the lengths HTC is expected to struggling to build Windows Mobile a bit a reduced amount of doggish these kinds of days — but got properties to spice up the Touch Pro in a capacitive touchscreen and Android, HTC can only hold a game-changer on this hands.

Hands-on with Helio’s hot hot Heat

features, hands-on, heat

This Heat showed up at our doorstep today (that’d be the phone, not the post-punk band), and we have to say, we’re swooning. We’re a little bummed the Heat doesn’t have a memory card slot, but that excepted, this is by far our favorite Helio phone to date. It’s strange that this is positioned as lower end than the Drift, but that’s cool, you can save a little cash and get a nicer phone that’s even a little smaller. Enjoy the eye candy in our hands-on gallery.

RIM’s BlackBerry 8300 received, photographed

Thursday, May 8th, 2008 by admin

Handsets, RIM

You know there’s nothing we adore more than snapshots of our favorite gear that we sadly can’t touch just yet, and the BoyGenius himself has snapped up the elusive BlackBerry 8300 just days after codename “Daytona” first hit the ‘net as a plainly labeled evaluation unit. Reportedly, the 8300 is a hair slimmer / smaller than the 8800, features an “outstanding” integrated speaker, and touts a much more manageable and responsive keyboard to boot. Interestingly, his unit didn’t seem to sport video recording nor WiFi (bummer), and it was constructed primarily of plastic and soft rubber accents, which apparently added up to a fairly stylish device. The built-in OS was AT&T branded, but did feature a spell checker, fullscreen mode for playing back videos, and the ability to “create your own folders on the home screen and move any applications in and out of those folders.” Not much nitty gritty beyond that, but be sure to click on through for a few closeups, and hit the read link for the full rundown of snapshots.

Pioneer KURO and friends hands-on

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 by admin

features, hands-on, kuro, pioneer, plasma

We got to plant our eyeballs on Pioneer’s second-gen KURO plasma display (bottom center), along with all that other new gear Pioneer released today. While all by its lonesome the new flagship display is no doubt impressive, when stacked up against the competition it becomes quite clear that this new KURO is the one to beat. Granted, this was Pioneer’s own setup designed to make us believe precisely that, but we certainly did find the new display notably blacker than its predecessor, and quite a lot better than the competing offerings Pioneer had on display. The new KURO projector was also quite impressive, and we even got treated to the much-improved start times of Pioneer’s new Blu-ray players.

BlackBerry 9000 gets a very early review

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 by admin

lackberry, blackberry 9000, Blackberry9000, hands-on, preview, review, rim

We’re all about reviews of products before they’re released, but reviewing something before it’s even been officially confirmed by a company is its own special brand of magnificent. Granted, these are more like the hands-on impressions of a self-confessed BlackBerry addict, who was willing to fork over $828 US on the off chance that the eBay auction the other day was actually legit. A week later Kevin of CrackBerry.com has the BlackBerry 9000 in hand and seems to be loving every minute of it. Apparently the keyboard is better than the 8800 series, the OS4.6 is smooth, fast and pretty, and the 480 x 320 LCD is “awesome.” And don’t get Kevin started on 3G: the logo alone brought a tear to his eye — we’re clearly dealing with a bona fide fanboy here. That said, it’s an encouraging sign to see all those leaked shots weren’t just for show, there’s a real-live performer behind the legend. Kevin’s major caveat is the size and weight of the phone, compared to his Curve, but we’re sure the $828 hole in his checking account will have him coming to terms with that drawback in the near future. He’ll be posting more details and impressions as he goes.

Video: Hands-on Panasonic’s DMC-FX500 with 3-inch touchscreen and 720p video

Friday, April 18th, 2008 by admin

25-mm, 720p, dmc-fx500, fx500, hands-on, leica

No doubt, we liked Samsung’s 10 megapixel NV24HD camera with 720p video. But we loves us some Panasonic DMC-FX500. It shoots 720p video and 10 megapixel stills just like its Korean competitor only with a 5x, 25-mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens instead of the 24-mm 3.6x zoomer found on the Sammy. Oh, and it brings a bigger 3.0-inch touchscreen too. With the unit already making its way out the door in the US for about $400, we’re just waiting to hear about the image quality before grabbing one for ourselves. Reviews please, somebody… Bueller? Video hands-on after the break.

Till then, head on over to Engadget HD for their first look.

SanDisk Sansa Fuze hands-on

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008 by admin

sandisk-sansa-fuze-hands-on-top.jpg

So we’ve had a SanDisk Sansa Fuze hanging around the office for a few days and already we can tell you that fans of the Sansa line will find it a welcome addition to the line. The interface feels pretty snappy and it’s got all the geeky things you’re after (FM radio, microSDHC, 1.9-inch display) at a price $70 cheaper than the nano at the 8GB level. Plus, we know it sounds old school, but we’re really into the tactile scroll / click wheel, and the Fuze has the best one we’ve used in a long time. Check out the photos below, including a couple side by sides with a you-know-what.

Acer Aspire 6920 and 8920G hands-on

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008 by admin

acer-blue-gallery-1.jpg

We got a good long look at those new Gemstone Blue notebooks from Acer, the Aspire 6920 (16-inch) and 8920G (18.4-inch). We can’t say we’re crazy about the “CineTouch” controls to the left of the keyboard, and both laptops — while certainly thin for their class — are still bulky enough to make our chiropractor take pause. That said, Acer is certainly working a lot more design polish into its product, and the specs are, as ever, quite lovable. Hit up the read links below for official PR from Acer.
