As many of you doubtless know, the Japanese Honda Odyssey isn’t the same thing we get here in the States. While we get the more jumbo-rific family escape pod with sliders and the whole shebang, the JDM Odyssey is a sleeker-looking MPV with four traditionally-hinged doors anf four-cylinder power. And now it’s time for a new one. Honda’s just put up a special site to welcome the upcoming 4th-gen JDM Odyssey, whose styling further evolves the shape that’s by now a common site in Japan, while the front end is likely to showcase Honda’s current family design theme (think Clarity, Insight, etc.). You can check out the teaser site by clicking here, and keep in mind that Honda’s reportedly thinking about sending over some of its JDM machinery. In lieu of, say, an Accord wagon, this (or the more compact Stream) might work for a lot of people — especially those of use who view the traditional minivan as Superman does kryptonite.

In a follow-up to our previous post about Trust’s bankruptcy filing in Japan earlier this week, GReddy – Trust’s U.S. arm – has issued a press release (available after the jump) to assure Stateside consumers that all is well and operations will continue in the U.S. unabated.

According to the release, Trust filed for “Minji-saisei-hou” in Japan, the equivalent of Chapter 11 in the States, that will allow the performance parts manufacturer to continue its business while it reorganizes. That process will have “little, if any effect on GReddy Performance Products” in the U.S. GReddy plans to feature three new project vehicles at SEMA this year, and both Trust and GReddy have adequate inventory and personnel to service customers.

Between Vertu and the 8800, Nokia gives the world plenty of ways to flaunt its surplus cash — but not enough for Japan’s members-only CELUX department store, apparently. The ultra-exclusive “shopping club” will be offering unique versions of the Nokia 7360 — a member of the chic L’Amour Collection — for just a couple weeks this month. The new variants come in pink (a slightly different scheme than the regular version for us common folk) and black. No word on pricing, but c’mon, it’s just a color change… it’d better not be much more than the standard-issue piece.

The ever-boastful MTI Micro is back again, just days after showing off a fuel cell-powered GPS prototype in Atlanta. This go ’round, the company is announcing a newfound partnership with an elusive Japanese developer of digicams in order to “evaluate the feasibility, development and production” of Mobion products. The love affair will enable the two to work together in evaluating and adapting the aforesaid technology for use in “various precision imaging applications, including digital cameras.” Best of all, work is apparently already ongoing, and MTI Micro is expected to deliver prototypes later this month. Going from prototype form to the store shelf, however, will be the hard part.

Nothing like washing down an all new WiFi-enabled digiframe with an all new home media server, right? Apparently Sony is firmly in agreement, as it’s also launching its latest multimedia server / NAS drives today in Japan. The 1TB VGF-HS1 / 1.5TB VGF-HS1S would stack nicely atop your VAIO HTPC, and aside from boasting gigabit Ethernet, DLNA compatibility, an integrated display, USB connectivity and a hidden multicard reader behind the front panel, this unit plays nice with AVCHD, MPEG2, HDV, JPEG, BMP, PNG, WAV, MP3, ATRAC (saywha?), AAC and WMA file formats. Word on the street has these shipping on May 17th for ¥60,000 ($570) / ¥80,000 ($760) depending on capacity, but only time will tell if Sony sees fit to send ‘em Stateside.

Here it is copyright bandits, the single biggest reason (besides silicone) to make a Hollywood studio notice you: the MZK-NAS02SG1T network attached storage device from Planex. The main selling point behind the ¥54,799 (about $524) 1TB Gigabit Ethernet block is the claim to “universal access” for all your devices. That little trick comes courtesy of its DigiJuke browser for searching and tagging the BitTorrent and YouTube content you want downloaded in the appropriate PSP and iPod (MPEG-4), Wii (FLV), or TV (MPEG-2) format for in-home or on-the-go viewing. The NAS also streams audio and video to your iTunes laptops or desktops, DLNA TV, Xbox 360, or other compliant device in the home. A front-facing USB 2.0 jack offers one-touch dubbing of USB sticks while a second around back offers ready storage expansion. It ships with a pair of 3.5-inch 500GB drive which you can swap out for higher capacity spinners at a later date. That is if the studios don’t shut you down first.

Don’t bother asking if the madness will ever end; you know good and well it won’t. Now that we’re clear, let’s focus on the latest Hello Kitty-blasted laptop: the May-bound Endeavor NJ2100. Available in either a floral-inspired or airplane-dominated theme, the predominantly Pearl White machine touts rather exceptionally modest specs (shocked?) including a 15.4-inch WXGA display, 1.86GHz Intel Celeron processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, an 80GB hard drive, 3-in-1 multicard reader, gigabit Ethernet / WiFi and Windows Vista Home. You’ll also find a FireWire socket, four USB 2.0 ports, a PC Card slot and around one measly hour of battery life from the standard cell. Totally not worth the ¥147,000 ($1,409) asking price, but then again, cuteness demands a serious, serious premium these days.

Reaction to NTT DoCoMo’s new logo has been mixed, but when it comes to the carrier’s phones, there’s still very little to not love — and when we say “love,” we mean “feel sorry for ourselves that we don’t have access to these things.” The recently-announced (and copied) Raku-Raku F884i from Fujitsu is now available in three delicious colors, featuring the same one-seg mobile TV tuner and gargantuan display present on the majority of modern handsets for the Japanese domestic market. Other goodies include a configurable orientation sensor that, by default, fires up the TV when tilted in one direction and the camera when tilted in the other (clever!) and upgraded voice recognition that allows for complete email dictation by sending the user’s voice to a server and text back to the phone in real time. Oh, and this one does global roaming, too, so we’ll take one of each, please.

Japan’s oldest “modern” robot — the 10-foot, 6-inch GakuTenSoku — has been awakened in Japan. Gone are the inflatable rubber tubes of the original 1928 android build by biologist Makoto Nishimura. The bot now tilts its head, moves his eyes, smiles, and puffs out his cheeks thanks to a $200,000, computer-controlled, pneumatic-servo makeover. While nothing compared to his modern offspring, GakuTenSoku still manages to creep us the hell out. On display at the renovated Osaka Science Museum starting July 18th. Video after the break.

Look Japan, we know you love your robots but is it really prudent to equip them with them frigging laser beams? Why not just hand them maps to our vital organs and special hoses to juice our babies? You’re looking at an actual photo from the Blazer tournament held this week in Fukuoka City, Japan. The competition fitted Kondo’s KHR-1HV with lasers and sensors and then let the teams battle it out in a mock-up city. We truly are the makers of our own doom.
