.es Marches Towards One Million Registrations

Monday, April 14th, 2008 by admin

.es, Spain’s ccTLD, is well on the way to its one millionth registration and will pass the nine hundred thousandth domain registration this month. It is expected the one millionth registration will occur in May.
Registrations have soared from around 85,000 at the end of 2005 to almost 300,000 in December 2006, almost 508,000 in 2006 and 805,000 at the end of 2007.

The liberalising of .es registration requirements is the main reason for the rapid increase in registrations, as well as.es becoming the equivalent of .com for the Spanish-speaking world.

For more information on .es, and to keep track of month-to-month registrations, see https://www.nic.es/estadisticas.

Ferrari previously announced their One to One personalization program back at the Geneva Motor Show a few weeks ago and now it’s coming to North America. One to One is for those who just can’t settle for an “off the rack” Ferrari, as if there is such a thing, yet the program allows purchasers of the new 2008 612 Scaglietti to have their new toys tailored to their whims.

Beginning with the Park Avenue store in New York this week customers can work with a specialist to select the materials and accessories they want in their 612 to create a truly bespoke Italian exotic. Once the desired combinations have been chosen, the cars will be assembled in a dedicated corner of the Maranello factory. Along with the usual shrieking V-12, the latest edition of the 612 includes Ferrari’s new electrochromic roof and SuperFast electro-hydraulic shifted gearbox. If you have to ask the cost… just peruse the gallery and drool.

16GB Samsung P2 now available from Best Buy Canada

Thursday, March 27th, 2008 by admin

Harris Corp. may have nothing but good things to say about the HTC-made PDAs it’s planning to supply for use in the 2010 census, but it looks like the handhelds are already starting to cause plenty of headaches for census officials, who are reportedly even considering a return to pencil and paper if things can’t be resolved. As the AP reports, the problems start with the contract for the devices, which originally clocked in at $596 million, has since grown to $647 million, and could eventually balloon to as much as $2 billion. As if that wasn’t enough, the handheld has also apparently proven to be “too complex” for some of the temporary census workers that took part in a test last year, and the device was reportedly “not initially programmed to transmit the large amounts of data necessary.” As a result, census officials are now said to be considering a number of different options to scale back the use of the devices, only, one ,of, which ,apparently, actually, has ,the, headcounters, entering ,data, into ,’em, as, they, go ,door-to-door.

You may still not be able to get an iPhone in Canada (at least officially), but you can now at least grab a spiffy new 16GB Samsung YP-P2, which is a whole 8GB bigger than the model currently available in the US. From the looks of it, Best Buy Canada is the among the first to offer the beefed-up, Bluetooth-packin’ PMP, with it currently demanding $330 Canadian (a $40 discount off the $370 list price) on the retailer’s website. Apart from the bump in storage, however, there doesn’t look to be any other changes to the player, with it boasting the same 3-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth 2.0 support, and H.264, OGG, and WMV playback as before. Of course, it’s not very likely this’ll be a Canadian exclusive for long, though we’ve still yet to hear anything official on that from Samsung.

If you are interested in a global positioning system device but not the steep price that comes with it, the TomTom One 3rd Edition GPS is a good choice. Costing about $249, this entry-level GPS device has all the good things from its predecessor TomTom One, but adds a Map Share technology and a “Help Me” safety feature.Map Share allows the user to make adjustments to the maps such as noting which roads are blocked, adding new streets, and so on. This information can also be shared with other drivers by uploading your saved map with the TomTom Home Desktop companion.

Meanwhile, the Help Me safety feature informs the user where to find the nearest police station, hospital, or car service center, all based on the current location. Although it does not come with a text-to-speech functionality, it does come with a voice-guided turn-by-turn directions as well as a 3.5-inch touch screen.
