MARINA DEL REY, Calif.: Time is running out to make the Internet your business and put your name forward to join the global leadership volunteers who help the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers coordinate the polices and process that shape the future of the Internet. “If you want to be a part of ICANN’s exciting work on bringing the languages of the world to domain names, and creating more choice for consumers by allowing for the creation of new Internet extensions beyond the ones currently available like .net or .org, now is the time to let the us know,” said Hagen Hultzsch, Chair of the Nominating Committee (NomCom). “ICANN’s global team of Internet leaders is working on some of the biggest changes to the Internet since it was created – and this is the chance to help make that happen.”
The Nominating Committee is independent of ICANN and is tasked with searching the world for experienced individuals to fill key positions on ICANN’s Board and its Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees. The following positions are being filled this year:
* 2 Board Directors
* 1 GNSO Council member
* 1 ccNSO Council member
* 2 ALAC members (who will represent Europe and North American regions)
“The ICANN leadership team is a dedicated group of volunteers from across the world who have helped shape the Internet used by more than a billion people globally. The coordination work done by ICANN has provided a foundation for businesses across the globe—and fostered operations that rely on the Domain Name System’s ability to connect them to customers and business partners,” said Hultzsch. “We’re looking for volunteers to join this team and work alongside people who come from in the technical field, who are leading policy experts, and even individuals who helped create the very foundations of the Internet.”
The deadline to submit Statements of Interest is 15 April 2008 23:59 UTC.
“Beyond its responsibilities for keeping the Internet secure, stable, and interoperable, ICANN’s mission is to grow and evolve its global multi-stakeholder decision-making process, so it is the individuals who make up the wider Internet community who direct and decide the Internet’s future,” Hultzsch added.
There have been 42 Statements of Interest received so far:
* 40 from men
* 2 from women
* 12 from Europe
* 8 from Asia/Australia/Pacific
* 5 from Latin America/Caribbean

Some candidates have asked to be considered for more than one position.
ICANN covers travel expenses related with ICANN duties. Information on applying is available at http://nomcom.icann.org/. The 2008 Nominating Committee does not anticipate extending the nomination period as it has done in previous years.

Interesting developments in the .be zone these days. After a relatively quiet period following price promotions of the Belgium registry in 2006, the registrations of three letter .be domains are in a steep rising again. In fact, as we speak only 313 names seem to be left once you excluded the lower quality letters Q,X,Z,Y,V & W.
According to the Belgium registry DNS.be, they experienced the first 3 months of this year a net. growth of about 1500 three letter registrations. Would that have anything to do with the recent price decreases of the registry? (5 to 3 euro per Jan 1st, 08) or would recent sales of lll.be’s at Sedo have inspired domainers?
mlm.be $1,224
imh.be $490
pkr.be $1,330
neo.be $293
What actually triggered me to dive into the subject was a separate section at the website of BlueBecker for 3 letter .be domains. BlueBecker is known for the famous countdowns of lll.com’s and, more recently l-l-l.com’s. Apparently the lll.be’s have caught their attention next ;). You can find a weekly updated overview of the names that are still available at: http://bluebecker.com/lll_be.html.
As an introduction to the Belgium TLD EuroDNS offers you all .be registrations during the month of April for only 5,30 euro (activate voucher code BE4U in your free account).
12418 lll.be’s have been registered at this moment so there is still an opportunity left. Don’t miss it!

We were sold on (and slightly terrified of) the Sarcos XOS exoskeleton from the moment we first saw it show off its superhuman capabilities on video late last year, but if you just can’t get enough of it you’ll definitely want to hit up the ever-dependable Popular Science, which has now totally blown things out with the full story behind the suit, complete with some great new pics of it. As if that wasn’t enough, the piece also includes some tidbits about some of Sarcos’ future plans, including word that the Army plans to begin field-testing the XOS by 2009, and that the company intends to kick off a new research program this summer tasked with developing a new generator that’ll be capable of powering the suit for “hours at a time.” Of course, there’s plenty more in the six-page feature that we’re unable to sum up here, so be sure to hit up the link below for the full story.

Pakistan’s proposed series of ODIs with Sri Lanka has hit the rocks before even properly setting sail because of a probable clash of dates with the Indian Premier League (IPL). The PCB said that it would ensure the best side would be available for the series - tacitly acknowledging there might be a clash - it appears likely the series will be postponed to ensure the IPL doesn’t suffer, which will raise further questions about whether a window needs to be found in the international calendar for the league.
The bilateral series was hurriedly agreed upon a couple of days ago with Arjuna Ranatunga, chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), accepting an invitation from his Pakistan counterpart Nasim Ashraf in Lahore, as Pakistan rushed to fill the gaps in their calendar left by Australia’s pull-out from a full tour in March-April.
Though dates were not decided, reports suggested that the series would go ahead between April 23 and May 5, after Sri Lanka complete their tour of the Caribbean. However, the IPL begins on April 18 and a number of players from both sides are involved.
The IPL has told heads of various franchises that players from both sides will be available for the tournament and has urged them to work according to plan. Franchise heads have been assured that the IPL has the cooperation of both boards, who plan to schedule the series after the IPL ends on June 1.
Duleep Mendis, the SLC chief executive, says the board is not even aware of the series. “It was just a suggestion, I believe, from Pakistan,” he “But nothing has been discussed yet, and there has been no confirmation in this regard. Officially, such a tour is not on the cards yet. We don’t know anything about this tour.”
Despite assurances, some franchises remain concerned at the prospect of losing out on star players, if only for a couple of weeks. Deccan Chargers, the Hyderabad IPL team who have Shahid Afridi, Chaminda Vaas, Nuwan Zoysa and Chamara Silva, are worried about the proposed series and hope that it will be rescheduled. But Vijay Mohan Raj, the franchise’s chief executive, says they have not taken up the issue with the IPL council.
“Of course, the series would be a huge worry for us,” Raj “It’s not fair. We were informed clearly about who would be available during the first auction, and we bought our players depending on that. This series, if it happens, will change everything. We are hoping that it is rescheduled.”
When it can be rescheduled to is another matter. The only window is between June 1, when the IPL concludes, and June 24, when the Asia Cup - also to be held in Pakistan - begins. But the extreme summer temperatures in most of Pakistan during June seemingly rule out that period, unless the entire series consists of day-night matches in Karachi.
After the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka are due to host India for a series of three Tests and five ODIs, which will take them to the end of August. In September Pakistan is scheduled to host the ICC Champions Trophy.
Nasim Ashraf, chairman PCB, rigorously denied that the IPL had come in the way of the series, but admitted a window had yet to be found. “You will have to ask the IPL [about whether assurances had been given], because I have no knowledge of that at all,” Ashraf “This is our schedule and it has nothing to do with the IPL.”
But no dates for the series could be pinpointed and the April-May window was not mentioned. “In principle, SLC have accepted our invitation. The question is of finding dates,” Ashraf said. “Tentatively, June is an option, but essentially sorting out dates is up to us.”

Pushing pixels is great and all, but sometimes we’ve just got a hankering to see how far those dollars can stretch, and Averatec’s 2575 laptop mostly satisfies those urges.
