Rumormill: Dodge Challenger SS Drag package weeks away

Just like in the ’60s, some people will take their new 2008 Dodge Challengers to the drags. Chrysler is reportedly ready to make this very easy for new Challenger owners. Allpar is reporting that within a few weeks, there will issue forth from Chrysler a Super Stock special version of the Challenger. The intended application is Stock Eliminator drag racing, and the cars get their own VINs and lots of lightening. Powering drivers down the strip will be versions of the Hemi and 5.9 liter Magnum V8s, twisting through manual or automatic boxes.

Jettisoning things like wipers, HVAC, sound deadening and seats make for a Challenger that’s definitely not road-ready, but much lighter for track applications. 800 pounds have reportedly been trimmed out of the car through the omission of equipment and special composite body parts. Mechanicals have been modified to better suit the use, too. The main body unit gets tweaks, and the front crossmember is modified to a drop-out unit. Front brakes are largely unnecessary when the nose is in the air for part of the run, so lightweight units have been fitted. The fascia support and cooling system also get the slim-fast treatment. More information will supposedly arrive soon, but a 1,320-pounding neo-E body pony car appears close at hand.

Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart Version R Special: Now with SUPER STIFFNESS

Thursday, April 24th, 2008 by admin

Alex and I share an unbridled lust for the Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart Version R. We’ve imagined a death match between the supped-up Colt and the Honda Fit, but Mitsu insists that there’s no market for a flickable fuel miser here in the States. They’re wrong.

Regardless, since its introduction two years ago, the Ralliart Colt has already been kitted out by Recaro and now, they’ve decided to send out an even more limited edition that’s boasting a 10-percent stiffer body through the use of some extensive seam welding. Aside, from that, not much has changed. It’s still powered by the same turbocharged 1.5-liter four, sending 154-hp to the front wheels through a Getrag five-speed manual. To drum up a bit more enthusiasm about the limited run of 300 Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart Version R Specials, Mitsubishi set out to break the 1:10 mark at the Tsukuba circuit in Japan. That’s enough to make Skylines, NSXs and all manner of JDM exotica chuckled underneath their burbled exhausts, but as any true pistonhead knows, driving slow cars fast has a perverse appeal that even the most high-powered uber-whip can’t match.

You can check out three Japanese-language videos of the Colt at Tsukuba after the jump.

MSI’s 13.3-inch VR340 laptop ain’t too pretty, special

MSI seems to be in quite the contradictory mood, as that “Innovation with Style” slogan certainly doesn’t apply to the laptop it’s plastered on. We had to triple-check to ensure the VR340 wasn’t actually introduced ages ago, but in fact, this 13.3-incher is incredibly fresh. Packed within the way-too-heavy 4.85-pound frame is an elusive dual-core Intel CPU, WXGA panel, up to 3GB of DDR2 RAM, dual-layer DVD burner, a trio of USB ports, 5-in-1 multicard reader and a six-cell battery for good measure. Mum’s the word on a price, but chances are that won’t hurt too many feelings.

Lensbaby 3G Special Effects Lens

Lensbaby, 3G, Special, Effects, Lens

Lensbabies are selective focus SLR camera lenses that enable you to create unique focusing and depth of field effects. They are actually simple lenses mounted in a flexible plastic tube, which can be bent to make such interesting optical results.

The latest third generation (3G) Lensbaby provides more control by means of lockable thread adjustments and fine tuning adjustments on the front dial.

It has the same features as the Lensbaby 2.0, except that there are three focusing rails emerging form the camera mount and passing through the focusing collar. There is also a trigger button which releases these three pins and conveniently locks the Lensbaby 3G in a bent position.

The lock feature of the Lensbaby 3G has in itself many useful functions. Once the Lensbaby is locked into place, you can make additional fine focus by way of traditional barrel focusing.

You can also adjust the sweet spot of sharp focus by simply turning any combination of the three focusing rails. This produces more creative images and allows you to work with long exposures and experiment with light.

The Lensbaby 3G is really for pro photographers who want precise focusing and complete control in their shots.
