Spy Shots: Alfa Romeo 8C GTA

Thursday, September 25th, 2008 by admin

How do you improve on one of the most desirable sportscars in the world? By applying the magic formula, of course! That means less weight and more power, as Alfa Romeo is preparing to do to commemorate its 100th anniversary with the extremely limited edition 8C GTA.

Although we can’t be 100% sure that this is indeed the GTA, we’d have to wonder why else Alfa would be testing an 8C after the development work on the existing model is already done. The prototype is also wearing protective strips along the front fascia and a different set of rims. With the centential celebrations less than two years away, we’re looking forward to feasting our eyes (if not our hands) on the GTA, which is anticipated to loose about 300 lbs. and gain an 50 extra horsepower.

Spy Shots: 2010 Ford Mustang finally gives up its interior (sort of)

Don’t for a second believe that Ford is just going to roll over and hand over tens of thousands of Mustang sales to the upcoming Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro without a fight. We’ve been showing you spy shots of what Ford’s got up its sleeves for weeks now, but this is the first time we have a shot of the next Mustang’s interior. Unfortunately, Ford is just as concerned with keeping any interior upgrades a secret as it is shrouding the Mustang’s new face. We’ve got a high-res pic of what Brenda Priddy’s photographer could snap of the interior just the same, as well as new front and back shots of what we expect will be the 2010 Ford Mustang.

New Camaro interior spy pics surface

The last time we saw some good spy shots of the 2009 Chevy Camaro, it was sitting on a trailer waiting for transport. Those shots included images of the car’s interior, but we’ve got more for you today courtesy of a Jalopnik reader who snapped a camouflaged prototype just sitting around somewhere. The interiors of both cars appear to be the same, which supports the theory that this instrument panel is close to production ready. It incorporates a number of elements from the Camaro Concept’s interior, including the big gauge pod with two large dials for the tach and speedo, as well as a cluster of four gauges at the bottom of the center console for battery voltage, oil pressure, oil temperature and one we haven’t seen on a production car before: torque. Sure, the concept interior’s flare has been toned down for production, but GM did not raid the corporate parts bin as much for the Camaro’s interior as Chrysler has apparently done for the Dodge Challenger’s interior. Spy Shots: Ford Fiesta Sedan snapped

The question of whether or not Ford will offer the upcoming Fiesta in the U.S. as a three- or five-door hatchback is still unanswered, but we do know that a four-door sedan version is on the way. And here it is, recently snapped by spy photographers in Dearborn, MI. Though this prototype is wearing heavy cladding, its clear that the design will stick closely to what was previewed with the Verve sedan concept. Also note the sharp forward rake of the beltline, which gives the car a very high rear trunk lid and might lead to a sense of claustrophobia for rear seat passengers who can barely see out. Nevertheless, we’re ready for Ford to reenter the small car market with a bang when the production Fiesta sedan arrives sometime later next year.

Spy Shots: Chevy Volt caught testing for the first time

the Chevy Volt passes from the vaporware stage into the physical manifestation of GM’s efforts to bring the series hybrid to production as promised. Though what you’re looking at is the body of a last-gen Malibu, we have confirmation that underneath is the Volt’s E-Flex powertrain being track-tested for the first time, or at least the first time in front of a spy photographer’s zoom lens. Of course, there are still a lot of questions surrounding the Volt, like whether or not GM will meet its self-imposed deadline of late 2010 for production, or if the price will continue to rise above the estimated $35,000 we’ve heard thrown around. What we do know is that the E-Flex powertrain will be paired with the next-generation Delta chassis. Two suppliers, Continental Automotive Systems and A123 Systems, are tasked with developing the Volt’s all-important lithium-ion battery pack that has to achieve the difficult mark of allowing the Volt to operate for 40 miles on electric power alone. There’s still a lot of work to do and not a lot of time left to do it, so it’s good seeing GM finally driving the Volt around.
