Robotics undergo appear a for a long while way, but properties a great deal often miss the innate, nervous sense of reluctant touch. Intel researchers hold reached somewhat similar in on a robotic hand which uses electrolocation to put up a robotic hand conform to the form of an object before interacting surrounded by it. Shown at Research@Intel Day, the hand uses fish-like electrolocation to bounce electric fields off of objects and consequently conform the hand to the current circumstances in true time. They use the dynamic “Pre Touch,” and it am able to establish useful for configuring robotics before properties interact provided objects without, say, damaging them or missing the interface completely. We’ve continued in the know of the technology for select time, but as you can see in the video once the break, Intel in the end has somewhat to show, and the possible results are how can sole be portrayed as a strangely nervous robotic hand.

HTC Touch Diamond hands-on

We had a little thumb-print orgy with the new HTC Touch Diamond immediately following its launch. Light and small, the Touch Diamond comes off as a unit with promise. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a while to get our hands on this via a US carrier, but Orange users in the UK will no doubt be pretty happy with this new handset, the first of its kind to use Windows Mobile 6.1.

Check out the gallery below, complete with comments and interface walk-through. A couple vids after the break, too!

HTC unveils new HTC Touch Diamond, “not too big, not too small”

Here we are in London at the Soho Hotel with HTC, and we are among the first to see their new Diamond handset. While we thought we may see three new products in three different form factors, HTC Prez and CEO Peter Chou led-off the event by mentioning that they would be launching just “one” product today. He peppered his intro by talking about the Touch, so we were prepared to see an update on that product utilizing their TouchFLO tech.

The device has some pretty nice interface tech that they’re calling TouchFLO 3D, with elements similar to Apple’s CoverFlow swipe tech. They emphasized web accessibility and zoom-in navigation with “just one hand” and not too many fingers, a clear swipe at the iPhone.

As expected, the Diamond is loaded with prettiness and specs, including (coming as we get them, so refresh for more, including pics!):

HTC Touch Diamond shots and specs: this week’s big announcement?

Sunday, May 4th, 2008 by admin

breaking news, BreakingNews, touch, touch diamond, TouchDiamond

We know HTC’s got a big announcement coming this Tuesday, and while we can’t say for sure it’s going to the Touch Diamond, if today’s leaked images and specs are at all accurate we think they might have something big on their hands. Check it out:

2.8-inch VGA display WinMo 6.1 Pro WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 eGPS, FM tuner Quad-band HSDPA 7.2 4GB internal flash, microSD slot 528MHz CPU 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus 10.7mm (0.47-inches) thick Supposedly also features an orientation sensor / accelerometer
Whether it’s got a QWERTY keyboard could still be up for grabs, especially since that configuration might belong to the CDMA-based Raphael. Still, the it makes sense HTC wouldn’t want the XPERIA X1 they made for Sony Ericsson to be their best engineered device on the market for long. We’ll be watching this one closely.

8GB iPhone and iPod touch reach end-of-life, at least in the UK

Conspiracy theorists and Mac rumor-mongerers, start your engines. According to an internal O2 memo we’ve received, stock of both the 8GB iPod touch and iPhone have run their courses, and have been EOL’d (at least in the UK). The brief letter sent out yesterday evening states that, “Due to the highly successful sales of the Apple 8GB I-Phone [sic], supply chain have today run out of stock & will not be replenishing stock of this product as it has now gone to end of life.” Whether this is due to the recent price cuts, the rumored upcoming 2nd generation iPhone, or just a sign that Apple is moving towards higher capacity devices is anyone’s guess. All we know is that soon the 8GB iPhone — at least in the UK — will become as rare and precious as the Pygmy Three-toed Sloth.

HTC spy shot reveals handful of new phones

Apparently, HTC is having a little trouble keeping people with cameras out of its offices, as evidenced by this totally great spy shot of a what appears to be a bunch of (or two) new phones. We’re familiar with quite of few of these devices, like the TyTn II, Touch Cruise, and Touch you see in the upper row, but things get a little stickier down below. Save for that P3470 that’s second from left, we have no clue what those slick looking square numbers are. The far left model and the far right might be the same device, but its hard to tell. It also looks like all the devices in this picture are using Windows Mobile, but we’re holding out hope that maybe the model on the far right boots Android… and soon.

Weekend circulars show jailbroken iPod touch with Installer on board

We’re not sure who nodded off in the art department, but we’re fairly certain they’re going to be wide awake come Monday morning. Apparently, Radio Shack is running circulars this week featuring the iPod touch… with the Installer and MobileChat icons. We’re sure Apple will be stoked to discover that a jailbroken iPod is hanging out in one of America’s most-viewed ads, and we’re equally sure that buyers will be pleased to learn they don’t really get an IM application with their purchase. Champagne for everyone!

Update: Take a look at a screen grab from the circular after the break.

One look at the PlayTomato Video Touch video and music player and you’ll easily be reminded of the Apple iPod Touch. Recently released the in the Korean market, the PlayTomato Video Touch is another one of those competing portable gadgets created to resemble some of Apple’s bestselling product designs. Despite the similarities in appearance, the PlayTomato Video Touch is mostly intended for the low-end market. With its features, the PlayTomato Video Touch can easily be called a mini version of the iPod Touch. The Video Touch has a smaller 2.5-inch touchscreen, compared to the iPod Touch’s 3.5 inch screen size. The QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) has a lower screen resolution with 260,000 colors, almost similar with many new cell phones. There are two versions of the player to choose from, the 2 GB and 4 GB memory capacities.

The Video Touch can play all music format - Mp3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, Monkey Audio APE and also Apple’s AAC format audio files. In addition, it can play MPEG4 and AVI videos. The device works well for both Mac and PC users.

The PlayTomato Video Touch is really just an iPod Touch look-alike. With its small size and downgraded specifications, the Video Touch comes in cheaper, almost just a quarter of the market price of the iPod Touch. The 2GB version has a price tag of US$63 while the 4 GB version sells for only US$84 in the Korean market.

Apple iPod Touch

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 by admin

apple-ipod-touch.png

In 2007, Apple unveiled an addition to its iPod family which brought a whole new level to the concept of portable media players. The iPod touch, with features akin to the new iPhone, has put to rest the question that Apply is the undisputed leader in the portable media player market.

With the addition of the iPod touch, Apple now has four iPods to offer its market base. There’s the iPod Classic which offers a visual interface and is capable of handling a large music library with 160 GB of disc space. And there’s the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano which are geared towards people who prefer carrying much smaller media players, those who do not want a visual user interface, and those that can be satisfied with a much lower disc space for storing media materials.

The iPod touch uses 8 or 16 GB of flash memory and offers Wi-Fi and and Safari web browser to its users. The touch is the first iPod to incorporate wireless access to the iTunes Store allowing one to download music whenever there’s a Wi-Fi connection available.

Critiques have commented that Apple was wrong to release the iPod touch just months after the iPhone was released especially when the touch incorporates some of the key features of the iPhone, the most prominent of which is the 3.5-inch multitouch widescreen that contains 480-by-320 resolution of data with 163 pixels per inch. Also at $300 and $400 for a 8GB and 16GB unit, respectively, the touch is definitely more expensive.

However, the display and touchscreen controls seem to get the attention away from the price tags. Browsing through folders of data, image, music, and videos by simply tapping on the scratch-free display is increases the value of the iPod touch.

The new iPod is thinner than the iPhone, having dimensions of 4.3 by 2.4 by 0.3 inches and weighing merely 4.2 ounces. Although, the touch is not small enough to fit in all kinds of pants pockets the size and shape is still manageable. If you want something that will fit in all your pockets, you better get an iPod Nano. Also, unlike the iPhone, the iPod touch does not have camera nor does it have Bluetooth capabilities.

File compatibility is similar to older iPods. The touch is able to play all bit rates of MP3 files including VBR, Apple’s DRM tracks or iTunes Plus, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV, H.264 and MPEG-4 files. It supports images that are saved in JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIF, PSD (but PSD for Macs only), and PNG.

The overall performance of the touch is excellent, and the visual touch screen experience is simply great. If you already have a phone and camera, and if you have the money to spare, i do recommend buying the iPod touch instead of the iPhone.
