boxing, nintendo, nintendo-wii, publicity-stunts, wii, wii-sports

This may appear fancy a raunchy story — the sort of catfight tale ending in on broken nails and torn clothing. We got type of anticipating this scuffles to take place as seven beautiful ladies tussled such beyond Thursday night in at a Manhattan bar & restaurant referred to as Sutton Place. Alas, we did not get to see anything and everything underlyingly lewd, but there got definitely a sufficient amount of sweaty bods to force the male crowd to a frenzy.

Taking portion in a Nintendo publicity stunt referred to as “Wii Box in the City,” such women tested out this gaming intelligence and battling skills in a Wii Sports boxing tourney to win a Wii system. The night was demented all night as crowds of supporters cheered and jeered. It came downward to Mari (in blue) and Regina (in yellow) for the championship. We caught up investing in Mari before the big fight; she informed us nearly her Wii experience: “I’ve played Wii before. It’s want a workout.” Regina on the a greater number of hand had never played the Wii before, additonally both ladies never had any gaming undergo past that.

Soon, it was opportunity for the ultimate fight. The two fought bravely, but in the end Regina won surrounded by a knock out. “Oh my god, you won!” exclaimed May, Regina’s smartest friend, whose excitement was fancy such a of a kid on Christmas morning. Regina gave her lucrative prize during to May who carried on to laud her bestest friend: “She in fact killed it! She’s the bestest friend ever!” Who appreciate so gaming and bar fights might bid friends closer together?

Apple has a Wiimote-type Apple TV controller in the works? We wish.

apple, apple tv, AppleTv, controller, nintendo, patent, remote, wii, wiimote

For every Apple and Nintendo fanboy out there, there is another equally zealous person entertaining a hope against hope that if only these two companies could somehow join forces, the world would be free from war, disease and famine. Apple apparently saw it fit to entertain those fantasies, and has a patent from November 2006 with some interesting Wiimote-esque functionality for what we presume to be the Apple TV. In fact, the patented controller seems to be suspiciously similar to the Wii controller in function, with a similar accelerometer and positioning setup, and Apple clearly states the proposed controller’s relation to gaming, in addition to other functions like zooming in on images. Unfortunately for the dreamers out there, Apple patents out-there stuff all the time that never sees the light of day, and we’re sure Nintendo wouldn’t be all friendly about Apple turning the Apple TV into a Wii-killer. But hey, let’s not let facts get in the way of unadulterated magnificence.

ds, nintendo, nintendo channel, NintendoChannel, wii, wii channel, WiiChannel

It didn’t exactly launch with much fanfare but, as anyone’s who’s already flipped on their Wii today will know, the Nintendo Channel is now live. There you’ll find easy access to a range of videos, recommendations for new games based on the games you’ve played (if you give consent for such nosiness) and, of course, game demos you can download to your DS (there’s eight of those right now). If you somehow haven’t already left for your Wii, you can find a guided tour of the new service courtesy of the fine folks at Joystiq by hitting up the link below.

Wii homebrew channel video released

homebrew, wii, wii homebrew, wii homebrew channel, WiiHomebrew, WiiHomebrewChannel

We’ve already seen some rudimentary Wii homebrew channel support, but this latest video released by homebrew developer Bushing steps things up considerably, with it turning what was once a curiosity into something that quite a few non-homebrew dabbling folks will likely be eager to get their hands on. As you can see after the break, the channel looks to be about as straightforward as can be, and it apparently includes built-in support for loading ELF and DOL homebrew executables via USBGecko and TCP/IP, in addition to support for loading ‘em off SD cards. Sadly, there’s no word on a release just yet, but we can’t imagine it being kept under wraps for too much longer.

Nintendo “passionately upset” about Wii shortages, won’t give out free Mario cakes

Besides being infuriated with leaving over a billion dollars on the table this past holiday season, Nintendo of America is also “passionately upset about the lack of product relative to demand.” Those words came straight from Mr. Reggie Fils-Aime himself, who noted that North America was the only Wii-serviced territory where supply and demand were still out of sync. Reportedly, some 40-percent of the 1.8 million Wii consoles manufactured each month are making their way over, but even after 17 months on the market, the average Wii sits around on retail shelves for “just an hour before [it is] purchased.” Unfortunately, we’re no closer to being able to clone the consoles in order to meet the insatiable appetite.

Bioware devs debate whether Wii is part of gaming

CEO Ray Muzyka and President Greg Zeschuk of Bioware, a company founded on narrative-centric RPGs, can’t seem to decide if the Wii is a game (as opposed to, from what we gather, a toy). In an interview with GameDaily, Zeschuk said, “If gaming is defined by story, then generally Wii may not be,” though he immediately expands on that, “The game [4 to 5 people together are] playing is actually very different than the rest of us. What they’re doing as a company is like a different flavor.”

Providing a counterpoint, Muzyaka noted that the Wii experience is “more toy-like” but also said, “there’s also a narrative between the players outside the game and kind of fulfills the same things games do. Games are ‘toys’ in the sense that they’re fun.” Warren Spector had made a similar designation in an Escapist piece last year, categorizing games like Tetris and Madden akin as “retold” narratives. The above is a rather bare-bones highlight of their discussion, so check out the full interview for more.

Toys R Us getting big Wii shipment Sunday

Admittedly, it’s absurd we’re doing a post like this a year and a half after launch, but there’s going to be a big Wii shipment at Toys R Us this Sunday. Just in case Wii Fit does cause another sustained Wii shortage, if you’re planning on getting the console in the next six months, it’s best to get one while the gettin’ is good.

To guarantee a Wii this Sunday at Toys R Us, customers need to stop by their local store and put down a $200 deposit. The five stores we called were accepting pre-orders for about 50 systems. Meanwhile, two of the stores asked why we wanted the pre-order details when they have them in stock?

Nyko intros “limited edition” Kama Wii nunchucks

Thursday, April 24th, 2008 by admin

Nyko’s already let loose a wireless nunchuck and a cord-free adapter for your standard issue nunchuck, but if those options are a little too subdued for your taste, you may want to consider one of the company’s new “limited edition” Kama models, which are also wireless and available in your choice of four colors of varying degrees of garishness. That includes gray, black, pink and gold (or gold details, it seems), each of which are limited to between 150 and 300 units and cost $35 each. Yes, that’s a premium over the standard model, but just imagine the looks of adoration you’ll get when you whip one of these out at your next Wii Sports tourney.

Wiimote cuff links: an accelerometer short of greatness

It’s somewhat unfortunate that they kept you waiting, but the same folks who brought those Sony fanboys their very own PlayStation controller cuff links have now doled out an option for Mario’s closest of friends. The Wiimote cuff links don’t stop with just a sterling silver Wiimote — oh no, you’ll also find a finely crafted nunchuk on the bottom end to keep the purists smiling. Sure, an actual Wii console only demands an extra Benjamin over the $150 pair, but it’s not like you can find the former in stock anywhere, anyway.
