1,200 donors needed at August 18 event
The Big Talker 1210AM, WPHT will be joining the efforts of the Philadelphia Phillies and American Red Cross to encourage donors to attend the Philadelphia Phillies Blood Drive on Saturday, August 18, 2007, at Citizens Bank Park. The event is being held due to the critical need for blood during the summer months. At least 1,200 donors are needed.
Dom Giordano - The Big Talker 1210AM, WPHT talk show host - will broadcast live from the event. The radio station will also promote the Phillies Blood Drive via the website, recorded promotions announcements, and live mentions from local hosts including Michael Smerconish, Dom Giordano, and Anthony Mazzarelli, among others.
The Phillies Blood Drive will be held from 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. in the Hall of Fame Club and will feature a limited edition “Away Uniform” Cole Hamels Bobble Head for all presenting donors, as well as autograph signings by a Phillies legend, appearances by the Phanatic and Phillies Ballgirls, free behind-the-scenes ballpark tours and refreshments.
Advance registration is recommended at www.pleasegiveblood.org or by calling 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543). Blood donations will be given to area hospitals. Free parking is available in Lot S (off of Pattison Avenue, near the Third Base Gate/Majestic Clubhouse Store).
The Phillies Blood Drive is also supported by the Philadelphia Sport & Social Club and the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging.
URGENT NEED FOR DONORS!
The American Red Cross is in need of first time blood donors. 12.9 million people in our community depend on the American Red Cross to provide an ample blood supply, yet on average only 172,000 people actually donate blood each year.
Most healthy people who are at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more are eligible to donate every 56 days. Donors can give blood at any one of nearly 200 bloodmobiles sponsored by business and community groups in southeastern Pennsylvania and in New Jersey weekly, or at one of nine community donor centers.
To make an immediate appointment for an American Red Cross blood drive this week, please call 1-800-GIVE LIFE (1-800-448-3543), or visit www.pleasegiveblood.org to find a listing of community blood drives.
