Time To Kill

If You Have Time To Kill…
Filed under: A-Rod, Baseball, MLB, Sports, You Should Read This…
Good read for any baseball fans out there.

Basically, Howard Bryant of ESPN.com talks about A-Rod and his playoff struggles.  He talks to some players and goes through the season and how A-Rod has evolved in terms of the media and handling himself.

The best quote, by far, comes from Kevin Millar of the Orioles and formerly the Red Sox:

“When is he just going to say, ‘I’m the baddest [dude] out there?’ ” Orioles first baseman Kevin Millar says. ” ‘I hit .320 with 40 and 130 RBIs, every [stupid] year, and what about it?’ What is anyone going to say to that? Nobody can challenge him in this game because nobody else is that good. He spent a lot of time trying to be liked. I just want him to say, ‘Don’t [mess] with me, because none of you [guys] can do what I do.’ That’s all he has to do, ’cause he’s a straight-up gangster.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself.  I know a few posts ago I said that A-Rod would stumble in October again.  The thing is, I want to see him succeed.  I want to see him do well just so everyone can get off his back and he can basically tell the world to just let him play baseball.

I just don’t think this will be the year.  The Red Sox have the pitching to shut opponents down.  It’s just the nature of the game.  Since the All-Star break against Boston (6 games/20 at-bats), he is hitting a paltry .150 and has a .320 OBP.

The last series of the year against Boston he was a combined 1-11 with five K’s and one walk.  The starting pitchers he faced?  Dice-K, Josh Becket and Curt Schilling.

I want to see him succeed, but history is not on his side…

For A-Rod’s sake, I hope he rewrites it.
