VoIP future on the iPhone

The question of VoIP on the iPhone has been looming over our heads for a long time. But this is no more! At a SDK launch, Steve Jobs said that VoIP will be available on the iPhone if it is not going to use EDGE network.
iPhone SDK doc states that “If an Application requires or will have access to the carrier network, then additionally such Application: … May not have Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) functionality.”
This means that VoIP apps should be written specifically for Wi-Fi network. Hopefully it won’t take too much time for some aspiring developer to write such app, since it could save quite a few cents on your bill, especially for long distance. In fact this could revolutionalise telephony…VoIP on the Phone!
